Do you ever hold an empty coffeepot by palming its bottom with your hand?
My wife, bless her, happens to have unusually large hands. I mean, EXTREMELY large hands.
One quirk of hers that I’ve never gotten used to is, sometimes when she’s cleaning things up at the sink, she will pick up and hold an empty coffeepot in the air by palming the bottom of the coffeepot in her hand.
She holds an empty coffeepot in the air by palming the bottom of it!
This really freaks me out. I’ve tried palming a coffeepot, but my hands are only average size, and I can barely grasp the coffeepot that way. I’m afraid it would slip out of my grip at any moment. But to my wife, with her gigantic mitts, it seems a natural and secure way to hold a coffeepot.
Do you know anyone who’s in the habit of holding an empty coffeepot by palming its bottom? Do you ever do this yourself?

Is Global Warming going to kill us all?
I’m so scared for myself and humanity in general.
What is wrong with everybody?

Why is everybody being so irresponsible?
Sometimes I get so worried about this I fell like killing myself.
I’d rather die on my own terms.
I can’t imagine being swallowed up by the ocean or dying of heatstroke.
Currently the sun is in a full solar minimum and producing only 90% of the heat to maintain a comfortable world climate. The hottest year of the recent climate optimum was 1934, 1998 was a full 1/10th degree colder than 1934, it seemed the liberal lunatics wanted to take over a few nations and cheated by telling people lies about global warming that was not happening. This was part of the political con that Obama used to get elected with. Right now the world is in a severe solar minimum and cooling rapidly. The earths climate has cooled in just 3 years to about where it was in 1916 and it will keep cooling until the sun comes out of its minimum in 40 to 60 years or so. In the meantime it is going to get very cold over the next few years if the sun stays in a full shut down.

You want to see irresponsible — check the 60’s, then the 70’s, then the 80’s, then the 90’s and compare them to today. Nobody comments on the progress b/c advertising progress doesn’t help them get donations to pay the bills.
Technological advance is the one guaranteed path to retaining a competitive advantage in the business world — risking one’s own capital is incentive enough to stay ahead of the curve.

The likely problems are going to be due to the good agricultural land moving to a different place and sea level rise putting cities underwater. Both of those are things we could adapt to (and you don’t need to learn to swim as the sea level rise will be gradual enough for you to move out of the way should you be in an area that’s going to flood).
Might also be a good idea to get an air conditioner if you’re in a place that’ll have hotter summers.

Steady there, no need to panic like that. Take some deep breaths and review the facts.
You live on Earth, not in a disaster movie.
There is some global warming going on and some of it is man made. Ignoring wild speculations, it will put the temperature up between 2-5 degrees in the next century. The sea will rise a couple of feet. Some plants will grow better and some less well.
It is not all bad news unless you are a polar bear. Which you are not.
Some land values will go up, some will go down. The tree line in the alps will move higher. Some places that are cold now will be more habitable and people will move there, such as Greenland and Siberia.
It creates as many opportunities as it destroys. Humans are always panicking about something, they enjoy a scare, hence the popularity of horror films. Do not be quick to go along with panic.
Live your life, walk gently on the earth, use a little less of resources. Buy long lasting good quality things. Reuse and recycle. Show compassion, love the humans just as much as all the other animals. The changes are not as dramatic as you fear, humans will adapt again and go on. A river running dry, a fall of snow, a change of coastline just mean a bit of relocation.

No. It’s going to warm the earth by about 2 degrees which will change weather patterns, raise sea levels up to 5m. Low lying countries like, Fiji, Tuvalu, The Maldives will be flooded. If you live in the central US, you’re unlikely to notice much of a difference apart from the desertification of some areas.
It’s not really that big a deal. We’ll survive. There be some environmental degradation and the carrying capacity of the earth will decrease for a while, but rich middle class people don’t need to worry.
Millions of people will have to move inland, becoming refugees, the price of waterfront properties will plummet, poor people in developing countries will starve, but you don’t need to worry.

It is normal to be scared in some ways, it is although better if you look at it in a logical way. lot of writing and talks about but lot of phonies too. Is it considered breaking lease by not giving 30 day notice of moving due to circumstance even if lease is up?
The Assistant manager who was the former secretary asked over a month before the lease would be up if we were going to move to which I replied it was still unknown. Then when I returned to pay the rent for the final month I was asked again by the former ass. manager which I assumed was the new manager to which I replied more than likely yes due to me having a baby soon and the income changing. They also called and asked I guess as a review to which I replied yes it’s more definitive that we will have to. To which there was no rebuttal or questions. Yet as the bills rolled in it, we realized we didn’t have enough to make next months rent, now no longer the leased rate even if we wanted to. So we applied somewhere else and they sent a rental verification form to the office. Who called so upset about not getting a 30 day notice that we were moving even though 2 out of 3 inquiries were answered "yes" ending with a definitive yes. The newly appointed manager alleges he came by to speak about the lease but I’m home all day and never got a visitor. I did happen to find a notice saying simply "your lease is up in a (hand written 30) days." No please call office or notify us. A letter telling me what I already knew. Now we will be out before next monday but will they have grounds for any legal recourse? They have at least 6 other apartments like our floor plan vacant and ready to move in, so we aren’t hindering them from acquiring new tenants. If anything they are feeling the sting of yet another building being on the brink of becoming empty because their rent is simply too high.
Since your lease ended it switched to month to month. Most leases have a part in it that says either 30 or 45 days nottice is required. You told them yes but your nottice has to be written. They could keep your security deposit if you had to leave one. They could also take you to court for it. I would suggest going in and sitting down with the manager to explain exactly what happened. They may decide to just let you go. Just remember to be nice and respectful no matter how much of a jerk the manager can turn out to be because ultimately it his / her decision on what happens next.

When you get to the end of a lease, they automatically renew as month to month. So by not telling them in WRITING that you would be leaving, you have obligated yourself to another month’s rent.

Exactly when is your lease due to expire? If it expired on November 30, 2009 and if you are still living in the premises you would be considered "holding-over" thus converting to a month-to -month tenancy. By being a month-to month tenant now you are required to give a 30 Day Notice. If you are holding-over for a few days offer to pay the rent for those few days that you will be in the premises. Also ask for a final walk-through inspection.
If you move out before or on the day your lease expires you are not required to give notice that you are vacating the premises because the lease itself is notice to all parties. This is true in most, if not in all states.
